LONDON, ENGLAND - JANUARY 23: Harry Kane, Eric Dier and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg of Tottenham Hotspur complain to Referee Paul Tierney after he awards a free-kick from which Thiago Silva of Chelsea scores a goal to make it 2-0 during the Premier League match between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on January 23, 2022 in London, England. Roy Keane disagreed with Gary Neville that Tottenham’s disallowed goal against Chelsea should have stood by making it clear that he was ‘wrong’ with his comments, as he told Super Sunday on Sky Sports.

On commentary duty, Neville claimed that there was ‘no chance’ Kane fouled the Chelsea centre-back when he put the ball into the back of the net in the first half.

At the time, Spurs would have taken a 1-0 lead, but instead, the referee thought Kane’s touch on Silva’s back was enough to bring him down and the goal was ruled out.

VAR backed up the on-field call, as Chelsea would then open the scoring through Hakim Ziyech straight after the break.

Before Silva rubbed salt into Tottenham’s wounds by scoring himself, as Chelsea beat Spurs for a fourth time this season.

Nonetheless, this is what Neville and Keane had to say regarding that game-changing call yesterday.

“It’s not a foul,” said Neville. “No chance. I mean there’s an arm there from Harry Kane, but that’s not a foul.

“All I am left to say is that he knows he is in trouble, Thiago Silva. That’s unbelievable experience, you can call it.

“But he’s a lucky boy, Thiago Silva and his experience has got him out of a bit of trouble. And his team.”

Keane added: “Believe it or not, Gary is wrong. Decent play by Spurs. I think when you run at that pace, at the time I thought it was a goal, but he just leans into him. I think the referee has got it 100% right.”

Across the 90 minutes, there was no doubt that Chelsea were the better side and deserved the three points.

But it was a big call to rule the goal out, which only piled more misery on Spurs fans and their quest to beat their London rivals.

That’s four games they have played against the north London club this season and that’s four wins, with no goals conceded.

It just further proves the job Antonio Conte has on his hands because it’s going to be very, very tough to get this Tottenham ship sailing in the direction he wants.
