Livingston manager Gary Holt looks on during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Motherwell and Livingston at Fir Park Stadium on October 6, 2018 in Motherwell, Scotland.

Gary Holt has admitted that he endured his toughest afternoon as Livingston manager on Sunday as his side were swept aside by an inspired Rangers at the Tony Macaroni Arena, speaking to the Daily Record.

The build up to a potential banana skin encounter was dominated by a war of words between Holt and Gers coach Steven Gerrard with a serious head injury suffered by Joe Aribo in last season’s clash still fresh in the memory.

But Rangers’ players let their football do the talking on a difficult plastic pitch. The in-focus Aribo scored a first-half opener before Alfredo Morelos followed up his stunning volley against Porto on Thursday with his 22nd of a remarkable season after the interval.

Considering that the Glasgow giants outclassed Porto, last season’s Champions League quarter-finalists, in Europe, a result away at Livi didn’t exactly turn many heads but the convincing manner of the performance should not be understated.

And Holt has claimed that no side has given him such a bruising since he was appointed in August 2018.

“They thoroughly deserved the win. I can’t put up a fight and say that there was anything naughty or nasty or anything bad, I just thought they were better in certain areas and we never cost them problem,” he said.

“It’s the toughest day at the office I have had since I came in.”

With Celtic cruising past Motherwell on Sunday afternoon too, neither side is giving up anything in the battle for the title. But if Rangers continue to perform like this, there is no reason to believe that the Premiership trophy won’t be heading to Ibrox for the first time in eight years.
