Livingston manager Gary Holt has suggested to STV that he hopes that Steven Gerrard’s Rangers do not recall Ryan Hardie to Ibrox in the January transfer window.

Hardie returned to Livingston on loan from Ibrox club Rangers in the summer transfer window.

The Scotland Under-21 international striker – who spent the second half of last season on loan at the Tony Macaroni Arena – has been playing well this campaign despite his injury issues.

The 21-year-old striker scored twice in Livingston’s 5-0 win against Heart of Midlothian at home in the Scottish Premiership last week.

Hardie has scored three goals in four Scottish Premiership appearances for Livingston so far this season, according to Transfermarkt.com.

Livingston manager Holt hopes that Rangers boss Gerrard does not recall Hardie in the January transfer window.

Holt told STV when asked if there was a prospect of Rangers taking Hardie back in January: “I’d like to say no. We’re delighted with Ryan but he has been out for eight months and only started two of the last three games.

“He’s still getting up to speed, we’ve three games he’ll hopefully be involved in and then we’ll assess it from there.

“We can do nothing about it, we’ll enjoy him whilst he is here, however long that may be.”

Staying at Livingston

Hardie is progressing well at Livingston at the moment, and it would make sense for Rangers to let him do just that during the second half of the season.

True, the Gers could do with another striker following the return of Umar Sadiq to his parent club AS Roma, but it will stunt the progress and development of Hardie if he does not get playing time at Rangers during the second half of the season.
