Gary Brazil has joked to BT Sport that he was ready to ‘ring Ben Brereton’s neck’ at one point, during Nottingham Forest’s match against Arsenal yesterday.

Brereton put in an eye catching display for Forest yesterday, as they knocked out Arsenal in the FA Cup.

But Brazil admits he was frustrated with Brereton, at times, as he kept coming short, rather than running in behind.

“He’ll stay because this is a club which gives young players opportunities,” Brazil said.

“He kept coming to feet early in the game. I was ready to wring his neck at one point in the first half! There’s a lot more to come from Ben. He has to go and stretch the game for us. When he does that, he’s at his best. He scored one, but he probably should be going home with at least two goals today.”

Brereton showed nerves of steel to step up to take a crucial penalty during the contest, which put his side 3-1 up.

Brereton demanded the ball, and looked confident as he stepped up to slot the ball beyond David Ospina.

The 18-year-old forward was regularly used out wide by Mark Warburton, but he showed his qualities when being used as a striker last night.

Brereton is more comfortable up-front, and his showing certainly caught the eye yesterday.

Forest will find out who they draw in the fourth round of the competition this evening, when the draw is made.
