Pundit Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that he wants to know just what has happened to Jose Mourinho following Tottenham Hotspur’s collapse against West Ham United.
Spurs were exceptional in the first half, opening the scoring in the first minute through Son Heung-min before Harry Kane bagged a brace.
At 3-0 up, Tottenham could have gone on and racked up the goals in a big win – but ended up drawing 3-3 following a shocking late collapse.
Fabian Balbuena and a Davinson Sanchez own goal gave West Ham hope, and Manuel Lanzini smashed home a long-range strike with virtually the final kick of the game.
West Ham were overjoyed at claiming a point out of nowhere, but Tottenham were left to wonder just how they managed to drop two points having seemingly established an unassailable lead.
Now, pundit Crooks – who featured for Tottenham in his playing days – has asked what on earth has happened to Mourinho, given that he used to be known for closing out games.
Crooks wants to see the Mourinho that scold players for attacking late in the day, seemingly putting the blame for Sunday’s draw at Mourinho’s feet having failed to shut up shop.
“I thought Spurs boss Jose Mourinho developed a name for closing games out. What’s happened to the man who used to scold his players for crossing balls into the box in the final minutes of a game instead of wasting time and holding the ball up in the corners?” said Crooks. “Can that taxi driver ask him that question the next time he does one of those TV adverts looking so pleased with himself and telling us how special he is?” he added.
