Garth Crooks suggests Danny Rose should be concerned after Ben Davies’ outstanding display

Pundit Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose should be concerned after Ben Davies’ outstanding performance against Huddersfield Town.

Spurs were buoyant after beating Rochdale 6-1 in the FA Cup on Wednesday evening, and took that into Saturday’s clash with Huddersfield as they claimed a 2-0 win at Wembley Stadium.

Son Heung-min’s brace handed Spurs all three points, rounding Jonas Lossl for the opener before planting a smart header into the net from Harry Kane’s cross for number two.

Tottenham continue to tighten their grip on a top four place and will now look to advance in the Champions League this week when they take on Juventus, with a host of players impressing right now.

Whilst, Kane, Son, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen attract most of the headlines, full back Ben Davies is also in fine form having nailed down the left back spot as his own this season.

The Welshman, signed from Swansea City in 2014, had been playing second fiddle to Danny Rose under Pochettino, but Rose’s injury last year gave Davies the chance to start the season as Tottenham’s first choice left back.

The 24-year-old has been superb this season whether deployed at left back or left wing back, and he has now received praise from pundit and ex-Tottenham striker Garth Crooks.

Crooks has told BBC Sport that he loved Davies’ sliding challenge on Danny Williams to prevent the Huddersfield ace from scoring, before suggesting that his ‘outstanding’ display should leave Rose concerned about ever getting his place back on a regular basis.

“What a slide tackle by Davies. Just when I thought the skill had well and truly deserted the game, Ben Davies demonstrates that the noble art is alive and kicking and just how a great tackle should be executed,” said Crooks. “The full-back’s challenge on Huddersfield’s Danny Williams was absolutely brilliant while his all-round performance was outstanding. If I were fellow Spurs full-back Danny Rose I’d be somewhat concerned,” he added.
