Pundit Garth Crooks has absolutely torn into Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris after Sunday’s hammering at Newcastle United.

Crooks has been speaking to BBC Sport after witnessing his former club turn in one of their worst ever Premier League performances.

Spurs were somehow 5-0 down inside 20 minutes as Newcastle ran riot against a sorry Tottenham side.

The scoreline ended up being 6-1 as Newcastle either took their foot off the gas or took pity on Spurs.

The fallout has begun and Tottenham fans are justifiably fuming as their season completely falls apart.

Captain Hugo Lloris only suffered 45 minutes of the horror show on Tyneside as he was substituted at half time.

A hip problem was the official line but we could hardly blame him for having a bad back from picking the ball out of the net so many times.

The Frenchman didn’t exactly cover himself with glory before his substitution and he has received pelters from Crooks.

The former Spurs striker has suggested that Lloris offered no resistance for Tottenham and his first-half display ‘beggared belief’.

Crooks even suggested that ‘it was a relief’ not to see Lloris come out for the second half as Fraser Forster came on his place.

“Hugo Lloris’ contribution to Tottenham’s first half beggared belief and it was a relief not to see him return for the second half,” said Crooks.

The end is nigh for Hugo Lloris at Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have been guilty too many times in recent years of not recruiting in advance of a problem becoming a problem.

Who was the last goalkeeper to genuinely challenge Lloris between the Tottenham sticks?

Michel Vorm, Pau Lopez, Paulo Gazzaniga, Pierluigi Gollini and now Forster hardly showed signs of becoming Tottenham’s number one.

Lloris is now 36 and there is no heir apparent, no plan for Tottenham to usher in a new stopper for the future.

The 2012 signing from Lyon has been great value for money over the years and nobody can really dispute that.

Lloris is approaching 450 first-team games for Tottenham and he has been a great servant over the years.

The time for change is coming though. The errors have been creeping in and Lloris isn’t exactly adept with the ball at his feet.

Tottenham need to find their next goalkeeper and possibly wave goodbye to Lloris after 11 years of service,
