Garth Crooks has stated on BBC Sport that Everton did not lose to Newcastle United due to refereeing decisions.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion forward believes that it was Ayoze Perez who decided the outcome of the Premier League game between Newcastle and Everton at St. James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

The 25-year-old, who can operate as a forward or as an attacking midfielder, scored twice late on to help the Magpies complete a 3-2 comeback victory over the Toffees.

Following the match, Everton manager Silva criticised referee Lee Mason and also confronted him on the pitch, as reported on Sky Sports.

Crooks does not agree with Silva, and the BBC Sport pundit believes that it was Perez who decided the outcome.

Crooks wrote on BBC Sport: “So, Marco Silva is the latest manager who thinks he can abuse the referee due to his team’s inability to protect a two-goal lead and his goalkeeper’s crisis in confidence?

“Well, I can tell him that it wasn’t Lee Mason who was responsible for his team’s complete meltdown but Ayoze Perez. The Spaniard ran Everton ragged, never lost his nerve and never gave up. Unlike Everton.”
