Tottenham Hotspur fans have seen their side suffer two heavy defeats during their last two games, both in the Premier League and in the Champions League.
Garth Crooks has admitted that he ‘never laughed so much’ after seeing rival fans rename Tottenham’s famous Seven Sisters Tube Station to ‘Seven-Two Sisters Station’ following that defeat to Bayern Munich.
It was a disastrous result for Spurs in the Champions League, but it seems as though their rivals enjoyed Mauricio Pochettino’s side suffering such a heavy defeat on home soil.
The week didn’t get any better for Spurs because on Saturday, they suffered a 3-0 away defeat to Brighton, who in recent seasons have struggled to score a high volume of goals.
Nonetheless, after seeing pictures of Tottenham’s Seven Sisters Tube Station receiving a mini-makeover at the expense of Spurs, Crooks admitted that he did like the ‘witty banter’ that was aimed at the North London club.
“I have never laughed so much at the genuine ‘witty banter’ posted online by those fans who love to hate us,” Crooks told BBC Sport.“It’s what real football fans used to be famous for. We also know who the real culprits are and it’s largely due to the fact that we always do things with an element of style. We even lose elegantly!
“Football banter, when delivered properly, brings fans together like nothing else. The quip of the week was, without doubt, the shot of Tottenham’s famous Seven Sisters Tube station renamed (by some cleverclogs) Seven-Two Sisters Station after Wednesday night’s drubbing.
“To make fans laugh in the midst of such anguish is quite a skill. More banter and less abuse, all. I just hope it’s not all at Tottenham’s expense.”
On a serious note, Spurs do need to sort themselves out, both on the field of play and off the pitch because it is seriously damaging their season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side will still have ambitions of going deep into the Champions League once again and finishing in the top-four.
But if they produce the performances of recent weeks then they will only continue to slide as Pochettino will be looking to arrest their current situation and find a solution to Tottenham’s recent problems.
