Newcastle United are toasting a shock win.
Garth Crooks has praised Paul Dummett as the Newcastle United player who defined their shock victory.
Dummett, 27, was one of two Newcastle players Crooks selected in his BBC Team of the Week, along with goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
Newcastle beat Tottenham 1-0 away from home thanks to a first goal from summer signing Joelinton.
Crooks said he was impressed by Wales international Dummett’s quality and work rate.
He said: “I could have picked anyone of their players against Tottenham but I’ve gone for Paul Dummett, the Geordie who epitomised the spirit of his team.
“From start to finish this lad placed himself in the heart of the battle and never wavered.”
Crooks’ column highlighted a statistic which saw Dummett make 12 clearances, more than any Newcastle player.
Dummett’s performance was backed by solid games from the rest of the back four, Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles, and new signing Emil Krafth.
This was Newcastle’s first win of the season and was totally unexpected after they were swept aside by Norwich City a week ago.
Next up in the Premier League is the chance to win their first home match, against struggling Watford.
