Tottenham extended their unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a draw at the Emirates.

Garth Crooks has heaped praise upon Eric Dier following his performance in Sunday’s North London derby, but admitted that he is not optimistic about Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of finishing above Arsenal in the Premier League this season, BBC Sport reports.

Despite going behind shortly before half-time thanks to a Kevin Wimmer own goal, Mauricio Pochettino’s men extended their unbeaten start in the top flight as a Harry Kane penalty ensured that the points were shared.

But while several Spurs stars impressed during the draw, Crooks explained what it was about Dier’s performance that prompted him to select the England international in his Team of the Week. But while he was positive about the defender’s display, he conceded that he is less convinced about the likelihood of Tottenham finishing higher than the Gunners.

“Dier’s performance against the Gunners, in what was an otherwise tame affair, was solid as a rock. But while his display may have prevented Arsenal going top, I still wouldn’t bet against Arsenal finishing above Spurs come May,” he told BBC Sport.

“How depressing!”

While Tottenham need to start scoring more often it seems, if they hope to make up the three points that separates them from Arsenal, they do deserve a huge amount of credit for their sensational defensive record.

After 11 league games, Spurs have conceded just six times – partially thanks to Dier’s form – and if they can maintain that kind of form at the back, it would surely take a stunning display from the opposition for any team to end their unbeaten run.
