Arsenal star inspired win over Burnley.
Mesut Ozil was controversially left out of Arsenal’s squad in midweek as they lost to rivals Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.
The German World Cup winner was back in the starting line up as Arsenal took on Burnley at the weekend.
He repaid Unai Emery by inspiring Arsenal to a 3-1 victory.
Ozil’s performance saw him named in Garth Crook’s BBC Sport team of the week.
Crooks said it was clear to him that Ozil must stay put at Arsenal.
He said: “All these media soothsayers who insist Ozil might be surplus to Unai Emery’s requirements must be mad. Why would Emery allow his only world-class midfield player to leave the club?
“No, Emery is much smarter than that. The manager may want a little more sweat from the former Germany international but as long as he keeps producing defence-splitting passes amid the rest of their midfield hectic mediocrity, Ozil is a must for Arsenal.”
The Times had claimed ahead of the game that Arsenal may decide to send Ozil out on loan, to get his wages off their books and prevent him becoming a distraction.
Ozil’s performance was the perfect rebuttal to suggestions he should be moved on.
The former Real Madrid ace has scored three goals and provided one assist in the Premier League this season.
