Jan Vertonghen’s performance for Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby impressed Garth Crooks.
The former Tottenham forward was impressed with the performance of Belgium international central defender Vertonghen during the win against Arsenal in the North London derby at the weekend.
The 30-year-old defender started the Premier League game on Saturday afternoon and played for the entire 90 minutes.
The performance of Vertonghen was very good, and former Tottenham forward and BBC pundit Crooks was impressed.
While including the Spurs defender in his Premier League Team of the Week, Crooks wrote on BBC Sport: “He hasn’t played with his chief accomplice – Toby Alderweireld – for a while, however Jan Vertonghen coped admirably without him against Arsenal.
“Of all Spurs’ defenders, and especially in the absence of Alderweireld, Vertonghen has been the most consistent this season.”
One of the best
Vertonghen is one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and the Belgian’s performances at the back have been brilliant for Tottenham so far this season.
The 30-year-old has played in all of 27 league games for Spurs and is going to be important for the North London outfit in the final weeks of the season.
Vertonghen joined Tottenham fro Ajax in the summer of 2012 for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £10 million.
