Tottenham Hotspur won against Manchester United in the Premier League at the weekend.
Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways in the Premier League at the weekend, as they got the better of Manchester United 2-1 at home.
The victory over United at White Hart Lane last Sunday evening saw Tottenham secure the runners-up spot in the Premier League table.
This is the second successive season in which Spurs have finished in the top four of the league and have claimed a Champions League spot.
It has been a successful campaign for the North London outfit, who are leaving White Hart Lane and will leave play at the Wembley Stadium next season.
Former Tottenham forward Garth Crooks, who now works as a BBC pundit, has pointed out what Spurs need to do in order to go to the next level – win major trophies.
“Tottenham deserved this victory but chants from the United fans stating Spurs ‘nearly won the league’ is a timely reminder of what the really big clubs consider important,” Crooks wrote on BBC Sport.
Crooks does make a very valid point. For Tottenham to establish themselves among the true elite in England and in Europe, they have to win the Premier League, the FA Cup or the League Cup, and regularly compete in the Champions League.
Of course, it will take time. Spurs, though, have shown clear signs of progress. Having challenged for the Premier League title until the final weeks for two successive seasons, the North London club should be optimistic about going all the way in 2017-18.
