Garth Crooks has paid tribute to the West Ham United stalwart.
Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that West Ham United defender Winston Reid was “outstanding” for the Hammers in recent weeks.
West Ham edged out Sunderland with a dramatic 1-0 win over Sunderland at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday.
That came a week after Slaven Bilic’s side beat Crystal Palace by the same scoreline at Selhurst Park and it appears as if the Croatian has helped his troops turn a corner.
The Hammers had only just one of their first seven Premier League games this season, but fast forward a couple of weeks and now it is three wins in nine.
The New Zealand defender scored the injury-time winner which sunk the Black Cats yesterday, and Crooks says he has been one of the Irons’ stand-out players in West Ham’s mini resurgence.
“This comes at a great time for West Ham because I think they are struggling in this new stadium,” he told BBC Sport.
“It was 0-0, they got a lucky break last week, they get another lucky break this week, but hey, you take luck when it comes.
“Winston Reid has been outstanding for the last two games by the way.”
Indeed, West Ham are certainly improving, but they have a long way to go before they emulate their standards of last season – and the likes of Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini must find that consistency to help the East Londoners do that.
Bilic and co host Chelsea on Wednesday is a League Cup semi-final, before visiting Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.
