He played a part in Everton’s opening goal and obviously helped Ronald Koeman’s men keep a clean sheet against the Hammers.

And after including Coleman in his Team of the Week, Crooks explained what makes the right-back so important to the club’s fortunes.

“You can almost guarantee whenever Seamus Coleman is playing for Everton something exciting is likely to happen in the opposition penalty area,” he told BBC Sport.

“The Irishman just loves to bomb forward and get shots on goal at every opportunity. It was Coleman’s powerful drive that was simply too hot for West Ham’s Adrian to hold and led to Everton’s opening goal.”

While Crooks has been impressed by Coleman’s contribution going forward, it is surely his consistency right across the pitch that has made him so valuable to Everton in recent years.

The 28-year-old is a fantastic defender, and can swiftly put Koeman’s side on the front foot after a period of pressure with a blistering run down the line that either sees him put in a great cross or create gaps for some of his teammates to exploit.

And if the side are to maintain their current position in the table – the three points has put them sixth after 10 games – Coleman will undoubtedly be one of the players that the manager will be relying on.
