Southampton came from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Garth Crooks has claimed that Moussa Sissoko should say ‘thank you’ to Nathan Redmond after the two clashed during Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat at Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were losing the game 2-1 in the second half when Redmond was unhappy with a tackle by Sissoko, with the Saints player pushing his opponent when he had his back turned.
Sissoko then reacted by pushing him back and leaning his head towards the attacker, with referee Kevin Friend issuing both players with a yellow card.
Speaking to Final Score on BBC One (09/03/2019 at 4:45 pm), Crooks was in no doubt that Sissoko was lucky not to see red as he praised Redmond for not reacting in a dramatic fashion.
“I think he is a very, very lucky boy,” Crooks told Final Score. “All credit to Nathan Redmond, he doesn’t go to ground. He doesn’t drop. He doesn’t make a meal of it. Sissoko definitely puts his head in Redmond’s face.
“He is very lucky to stay on. But Redmond does him a favour. I think Sissoko needs to say after the game ‘thank you’ because it could have been a completely different situation for him.”
In the game itself, Spurs took the lead in the first half when striker Harry Kane drilled home his shot after 26 minutes, with the home team producing a lacklustre display in the opening 45 minutes.
But after the break, the Saints turned on the heat with Yan Valery equalising after 76 minutes following a mistake from defender Danny Rose.
But five minutes later, the rejuvenated James Ward-Prowse produced a moment of magic when he curled home a wicked free-kick which was too good for Hugo Lloris in between the sticks.
Nonetheless, the win means that Southampton are two points clear of the danger zone, while Spurs are looking over their shoulder as the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea chase them in the race for the top-four.
