Davinson Sanchez started for Tottenham Hotspur as they beat Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.
Garth Crooks has claimed that Tottenham duo Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld should give their teammate Davinson Sanchez ”half their wages’.
The BBC Sport pundit was referring to the experienced Spurs duo leaving the youngester to deal with Aleksandar Mitrovic during their side’s 2-1 win over Fulham on Sunday.
Both centre-back Sanchez and striker Mitrovic were involved in a number of ‘heavyweight’ tussles, including one which resulted in them getting booked.
Crooks named Sanchez in his Premier League team of the week following the conclusion of Spurs’ late show against their London neighbours at the weekend.
“It was like a heavyweight contest [Sanchez v Mitrovic] but with poor old Sanchez having to punch well above his weight,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“Meanwhile Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld left the field without a scratch. Both of them should give Sanchez half of their wages. Protection money!”
Sanchez played the entire match for his side as they earned a valuable three points on the road without their star man Harry Kane in the starting XI.
After striker Fernando Llorente had scored an own goal in the first half, attacking midfielder Dele Alli nodded his side level just after the break.
The game was a physical encounter throughout and it became more of a battle as the game was coming to a conclusion with Mitrovic seeing yellow, along with Sanchez for bringing down his opponent following a challenge.
Nonetheless, midfielder Harry Winks ended up scoring a last-gasp winner for the away team as Mauricio Pochettino’s team maintain their top three status in the Premier League.
