Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham has reportedly turned down Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Garry Thompson has admitted that he ‘feared the worst’ about Tammy Abraham and thought it was ‘bye-bye’ regarding his future at Aston Villa.
Sky Sports claim that the 21-year-old Chelsea loanee turned down the opportunity to join Wolves and instead stay at the Championship club in order to help them in their promotion push.
It is said that Abraham missed Villa training on Monday, only to return the next day and inform his teammates that he will remain at the Midlands outfit for the remainder of the season.
Former Holte End favourite Thompson offered his thoughts on the Abraham saga and admitted that he thought he was going to leave the club this month.
“When he didn’t turn up for training [on Monday] when everything had been going on and there was no statement from Tammy at all, I feared the worst,” Thompson told BBC Radio WM.
“Especially when there was talk about him being on £55k-a-week and they were giving him £120k-a-week, I just thought it was bye-bye. I didn’t believe it at first but at the minute it seems pretty good.”
Over the course of the season, Abraham has found the back of the net on 16 occasions in the second tier of English football and looks set to break the 20 goal barrier during the second half of the campaign.
Dean Smith’s side are currently sitting five points outside of the top six places as they aim for promotion to the Premier League at the third time of asking.
Following their 3-0 defeat to Swansea last time out, which knocked them out of the FA Cup, Villa will travel to Wigan on Saturday in what will be a tough Championship clash.
