Ahmed Elmohamady started Aston Villa’s defeat against Leeds United.

Garry Thompson has slammed Aston Villa defender Ahmed Elmohamady for his performance against Leeds United on Sunday.
Dean Smith’s side, who were winning 2-0 at halftime, suffered a 3-2 defeat against the Championship leaders, with Kemar Roofe netting a last-minute winner.
Elmohamady was at fault for two of the goals conceded by Villa, at first he allowed Jack Clarke to cut onto his right-hand side to score Leeds’ first goal and then his badly timed header fell into the path of Roofe for the winner.
In Villa’s previous match, their 2-2 draw at home to Stoke City, Elmohamady conceded a rash penalty after his clumsy foul on James McClean.
Former Villa man Thompson stated ‘scouts will be watching’ Elmohamady’s mistakes and ‘putting it in their report’ as he was critical of the right-back for his defending.
“Scouts will be watching that (Villa’s troubles at fullback) and they will put that in their report,” Thompson told BBC Radio WM. “Do you not think that’s lazy from us (Aston Villa)?
“They should be working and making sure when the ball has travelled from left to right or right to left then the fullback must make sure he shows him on the outside. ‘Go on then beat me on the outside, there’s no way you are coming inside of me’.
“That should be worked on week in, week out, so Elmohamady knows there is no option. He’ll come on the inside over my dead body. He has gone and done it again.”

Following that defeat, Smith’s side are now 15 points behind leaders Leeds United and five points behind Sheffield United, who occupy the final play-off spot.
Under Steve Bruce, and now Smith, Villa have conceded 37 goals from their 23 matches – they shipped only 42 last season.
The Midlands outfit will now be on the road for the festive period, starting with an away clash at Swansea City on Boxing day before ending the year at Preston North End.
