Aston Villa will be hoping to add more depth and quality to their attacking line before Thursday’s cut-off point.
BBC Sport pundit Garry Thompson has boldly claimed that Wesley Moraes and the recently departed Tammy Abraham won’t score the number of goals Aston Villa need their strikers to score in the Premier League.
Thompson has stated that had Abraham signed for Villa then he would have scored goals, but like new £22m signing Wesley [Guardian], he questioned whether they can get ‘the numbers required’.
In the Championship, Abraham netted 26 goals for the club as he helped them earn promotion to the Premier League. He has since returned to his parent club Chelsea, who are willing to give him a chance in the first team.
Speaking to BBC Radio West Midlands (06/09/2019), former Villa striker Thompson shared his thoughts on Wesley and Abraham.
On whether Abraham would have scored goals had he stayed at Villa: “If he stayed at Villa I think he would have scored goals,” Thomspon told BBC Radio WM.
“[But] I don’t think he would have got the numbers required. I don’t think Wesley, at the minute, will get the numbers required.”
Thursday’s 5pm is edging ever closer as it remains to be seen whether Villa, who have signed 12 players this summer, will do any late business.
It could be argued that they need more firepower ahead of the new Premier League campaign, and if they can get another fresh face in then it’ll be of great help to Dean Smith.
