Tyrone Mings has been in a rich vein of form for Aston Villa following his loan move from Bournemouth in January.
BBC Sport pundit Garry Thompson has claimed that Tyrone Mings had ‘a bit of trouble’ during Aston Villa’s 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
The Bournemouth loanee conceded a penalty during the second half when the scores were level, but goalkeeper Jed Steer saved Steven Fletcher’s spot-kick.
Since his move from Dean Court in January, centre-back Mings has been a man mountain at the back, producing a number of Man of the Match displays.
But speaking to BBC Radio West Midlands (06/04/2019), former Villa striker Thompson felt that Mings didn’t have the best of his games, but he lauded the team for grinding out a victory.
“Some wrong decisions were made at the wrong time,” Thompson told BBC Radio WM. “Tyrone Mings played against an experienced centre-forward and he did have a bit of trouble.
“But they all showed what you want, character. When you are up against it at times, just keeping going through it, whether the storms lads and see what we can get – to get the two goals at the end is defining moments and with the keeper making the [penalty] save as well after making a mistake last week. Delighted for him!”
In the game itself, Dean Smith’s side scored two stoppage-time goals, with Albert Adomah netting the winning strike to secure a valuable three points for his team.
The Midlands outfit have now won six games on the bounce and are currently sitting fifth in the Championship table, with a trip to relegation-threatened Rotherham awaiting them on Wednesday.
There is not much separating the teams chasing two play-off places as the race to finish in the top-six could more than likely go down to the last day of the season.
