Leeds United and Newcastle United are both inside the top six, whilst Norwich City have struggled for consistency all season long.
Leeds manager Garry Monk
Whites boss Garry Monk spoke to BBC Radio Leeds way back in October 2016, and made a prediction regarding which teams he fancied to do well in the Championship during the 2016/17 campaign.
The Magpies currently sit comfortably in second position in the table, 10 points clear of third placed Huddersfield Town, and look nailed on for a place inside the automatic promotion spots.
The Canaries’ campaign, meanwhile, has been undermined by inconsistency, and they are currently languishing in 10th position, nine points adrift of sixth placed Sheffield Wednesday.
But six months ago, Garry Monk explained to BBC Radio Leeds how he believed that Norwich were the team to beat this season:
“I know that Newcastle are up there as well but for me, Norwich have kept a lot of their squad which were with them in the Premier League, as well as adding some good players in the summer. They have a squad which has been together in a higher league.”
With just five games remaining in the Championship season, there is still a lot to play for, but it would take a monumental turnaround for the East Anglian outfit to force their way into the top six.
Rafa Benitez’ side, on the other hand, could wrap up promotion with two wins from their next two outings.
And coincidentally, they play host to Monk’s stubborn Leeds side on Good Friday.
