The Leeds United manager is not afraid to rattle a few cages at Elland Road.
We may never know exactly why Leeds United manager Garry Monk opted not to start Pontus Jansson for the recent Championship clash against Brighton and Hove Albion, but whatever the reason, the fact he did bodes well for the future.
Monk has proved to be a man who knows his own mind and who, perhaps more importantly, is not prepared to pick his best players week in, week out on reputation alone.
Whatever happened to warrant the centre-back’s omission on Saturday, it is something both men appear to have accepted and moved on from.
That speaks volumes for their professionalism and for Monk’s position among the players.
They respect him, which is not always the case with football managers, and they will now know that if they do not pull their weight in the build up to every single game, they are at risk of suffering the same fate as the outstanding Swede.
Jansson has been nothing short of sensational since he arrived at Elland Road, but Monk has proved that Leeds are not a one-man team and if and when they return to the Premier League, that will only benefit their progress.
The Leeds boss will always do what he feels is right for the club, even if that means making a decision that at first glance looks crazy.
In the long term it could prove to be the complete opposite.
