It is looking like a mistake not to have brought in another defender at Elland Road.
Pontus Jansson celebrates scoring the second goal for Leeds United
Leeds United have hit a dip. Garry Monk’s men have lost two in a row in the league and were dumped out of the FA Cup by non-league Sutton United in January.
The recent defeat against Cardiff City certainly highlighted an area where Leeds do struggle. When star defender Pontus Jansson is injured, Leeds tend to not do well.
The Swede has been a revelation in the Leeds defence alongside Kyle Bartley and in his absence Liam Cooper has not lived up to his standard.
In January many a Leeds fan was expecting, or at least hoping, to see Monk bring in a new centre-back. But with Luke Ayling capable at the heart of defence Leeds gambled without making such a move.
That gamble may end up defining their season.

If Jansson was injured, or Bartley, Leeds will struggle to perform to their best. Monk’s decision not to bring a central defender to support the pair certainly carried logic. But it is also now looking like it might have been a mistake.
With plenty of teams willing to snatch their play-off berth it may be an error that ends up defnining Leeds’ season.
