Former Leeds United boss wanted commitment to the club.
The Leeds United team today is a very different one to the side which performed at Elland Road last season.
The spine of that side is gone, sold, released or loanees returned, while manager and star left-back have also departed.
It is exactly one year ago to the day that former boss Garry Monk pleaded with left-back Charlie Taylor to commit his future to the Whites.
And his comments look very interesting 12 months on.
Speaking to TV Yorkshire when quizzed about Taylor, Monk said: “All our players need to stay where they are. I do not have any doubts about any of that.
“That’s very clear, we said the same in the summer. That message is the same so we have no worries about that side of it at all.”
Taylor’s spell at Leeds would end on a sour note – and that bitterness would go onto be topped by Monk himself.
Taylor was left out of Leeds’ final game of the season, with his mind focused on securing a move away from the club.
He left for Burnley, although has failed to earn a place in their starting line-up so far.
While Taylor’s departure was half-expected, Leeds fans were shell shocked when Monk quit in June.
He was a manager who had preached togetherness, and seeing him walk out on the Whites came as a major surprise.
Monk is now managing Middlesbrough, but has found it tough to recapture the spirit and success of his initial spell at Leeds.
