The Leeds United boss would be delivering a strong message of intent with the signature of the Italian star.
Leeds United boss Garry Monk is still said to want two more players at the club this winter, as he aims to strengthen the squad as they push toward the automatic promotion places in the Championship.
One player they should look at bringing in is Sunderland attacker Fabio Borini.
A move for the one-time capped Italy international may seem slightly ambitious but Leeds mught have a genuine chance of pulling it off.
Firstly, there is the Italian connection. Leeds are owned by Italians and that could certainly help with negotiations.

Then there is the fact Sunderland need funds. Borini has not impressed for the club recently and Leeds might be able to tempt the Black Cats with a good loan package for the 25-year-old.
He is also well known to manager Garry Monk. The Leeds boss was captain at Swansea City when Borini was at the club in 2011 – a spell which ended with Swansea’s promotion to the top-flight.
When it emerged that Borini would be heading to Parma, and not remaining at Swansea, Monk told Sky Sports:
“Fabio is a great lad and talent and it was bitterly disappointing that we couldn’t keep hold of him. He played a major part in our run-in and will go down in the history of the club.

“It was hard to leave him in London but I’d like to thank him for his contribution.
“I know he had sorted out the Parma deal before he knew what was going on. But I’m sure if he knew what we would achieve, it would have made him think twice.”
So there is clearly some admiration there from the Leeds United manager.
Borini could help provide cover for Chris Wood in attack or add another threat to the side from the wide areas and could be the type of signing that helps take Leeds to the next level.
