Garry Monk unsure Andrea Radrizzani’s investment in Leeds will see his transfer kitty boosted

Leeds United are still yet to make their first signing of the January transfer window.

Garry Monk has suggested that he is not expecting Andrea Radrizzani’s investment in Leeds United to result in his funds for the January transfer window being boosted considerably, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.

The Italian handed Leeds a major lift at the start of the window as he completed his purchase of a 50 per cent stake in the Championship side, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

But Monk is not getting carried away with the idea that Radrizzani’s arrival is going to lead to a significant increase in the money that he has to spend on strengthening the Peacocks’ promotion bid.

“I don’t think the world works like that to be honest,” he said, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, when asked whether he expects Radrizzani’s arrival to bolster his transfer funds.

“We’ve been successful so far with not the biggest budget in the league. There are a lot of teams with a bigger budgets than what we work to but it’s not about money all the time. It’s about the process you go through and the things you put in place – the foundations.

“My job is the football side, on the pitch, and of course it’s for the owners to help guide that and to give the best support possible. But until we have the discussions about how the owners want to take the club forward and how it all works, I won’t really know.”

As Monk alluded to, Leeds have adopted a slightly more cautious approach in the transfer market than many of their rivals in the second tier, with nearly half of the summer signings to have subsequently featured in the first-team being brought in on loan.

And with that strategy seemingly paying off tremendously well – Leeds sit fifth in the table and seven points off the top two – there appears to be little need to spend huge amounts of money during this window unless it is on some astute pieces of business and seeking permanent deals for the loanees who have been so influential thus far.
