Leeds United returned to winning ways yesterday with a comfortable victory.

Whites boss Garry Monk spoke to reporters after his side’s huge 3-0 win over Preston North-End yesterday, and explained how he and his staff spoke to the Leeds players in mid-week, and drew the conclusion that they produce their best when they are fully focused on showing what they are capable of, as quoted by the Express.

The West Yorkshire outfit maintained their position inside the top six with yesterday’s win, and still hold a five point lead over seventh placed Fulham, with just five games remaining in the Championship season.

After back-to-back effects against Reading and Brentford respectively, yesterday’s win was of paramount importance to the Whites’ hopes of earning promotion back to the top flight.

And Monk explained how he held a meeting with the players following the Brentford defeat, highlighting the need for them to remain focused on the job ahead, as quoted by the Express:

“It was really important to respond and we were determined to after back-to-back defeats away from home and that was the key. We spoke to the group this week after Tuesday’s game and just felt what is important is that when this group is focused on showing what they’re capable of, that’s when they deliver their best performances.”

Things don’t get any easier for Leeds, however. Monk’s men will have to be on top of their game on Good Friday when they travel to Tyneside to take on second placed Newcastle.

And they must make sure they avoid defeat, to maintain some breathing space between them and those below them in the table.
