Garry Monk shares what he said to Leeds United players at half-time against Birmingham

Leeds United have impressed this season, and are in an incredibly strong position to achieve promotion to the Premier League.

Whites boss Garry Monk spoke to reporters about his side’s impressive win at Birmingham City on Friday night, and despite his elation with the end result, he highlighted a particular area of his side’s play which still needs to improve, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Leeds have been superb so far this term, and currently sit in fourth position in the Championship table, just seven points adrift of the automatic promotion places.

And with a full set of fixtures tomorrow, Monk’s men have the chance to strengthen their position inside the top six further still, when they travel to London to take on seventh placed Fulham.

The former Swansea City boss has worked wonders at Elland Road since his appointment as manager in the summer, and deserves huge credit for the manner in which he has gone about his business.

And he explained how he told his players during the half-time interval at St Andrews that they need to play with more freedom, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post:

“We spoke at half time and we just lacked that little bit of freedom. We looked like we were playing with pressure with us and we shouldn’t be. We are in a fantastic position and I said to the players at the end that we need to help free your minds a little bit more – you are in a fantastic position, you have earned the right to go and play your football and do the things that we know we are good at and that we have shown many times. It’s doing it from the start.”

The West Yorkshire outfit undoubtedly face a tougher challenge than most teams in and around them in the Championship table, with other clubs in the division looking at them as arguably the biggest scalp in the league.

And that makes their achievements so far all the more commendable.
