Leeds United’s Souleymane Doukara scored a screamer against Nottingham Forest last night.
Leeds United boss Garry Monk has jokingly taken some of the credit away from Souleymane Doukara for his great strike against Nottingham Forest, with his comments on BBC Radio Leeds.
Doukara was brought on to the pitch as a substitute last night, and with his first touch he slammed a volley into the top corner of the net to seal the three points.
Since turning up at Leeds United, almost everything seems to have gone smoothly for Monk. But, even for a manager who is as talented as Monk, his claim about what he said to Doukara before the attacker came on was slightly farfetched.
“Well, I said to him: just come on, strike it from the corner of the box, and put it in the top corner, will you,” Monk laughed.
“It’s fantastic technique, great concentration and it’s a difficult strike because it’s on the swivel. It’s very difficult. A fantastic and important goal.”
Doukara’s strike put Leeds 2-0 up against Forest, after Chris Wood’s 20th goal of the season had given the Whites the lead.
Leeds started slowly in the first-half, but grew into the game and looked well worth the three points in the end.
Monk’s side have now won their last six matches at Elland Road, without even conceding a goal during that time.
Leeds’ strong home form has been one of the reasons behind their push for promotion.
The Whites are currently in third place in the Championship table, but they have played a game more than all of their promotion rivals.
