Leeds United manager Garry Monk has told BBC Radio Leeds that he was disappointed that his side didn’t score more goals against Ipswich Town today.

The Whites were heading into the game having won their last two league games and beaten Blackburn in the EFL Cup in midweek, meaning Monk was looking for a fourth straight win in all competitions.

He got just what he wanted, as Leeds ran out 1-0 winners against Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich Town, as Chris Wood scored the winning goal in the 35th minute, turning Charlie Taylor’s cross into the net.

It’s another clean sheet for Leeds who are looking solid at the back thanks to the partnership of Kyle Bartley and Pontus Jansson in the heart of defence – and Monk appears to be pleased with how his side defended.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds after the game, Monk stated that he wanted to keep the momentum going with another home win, and felt his side looked ‘very complete’ defensively.

However, Monk added that his only disappointment from the game was that his side didn’t score more goals, stating that his players should have been more clinical with their 16 shots on goal.

“It’s great to get three points, that was the main objective today,” said Monk. “We wanted to win again in front of our fans, we want to keep this a fortress. I thought we showed that today. We looked solid throughout, we looked very complete throughout. The only disappointment for me is that we weren’t more clinical – we didn’t make the game a little bit easier for ourselves by giving ourselves a more comfortable lead, so that was a disappointment.”

Midfielder and club captain Liam Bridcutt again missed the game through injury despite hopes that he would be fit to play, and manager Monk was asked about the situation after the final whistle.

Monk believes that Bridcutt is ‘very, very close’ to returning to action, and they’re just waiting for his pain threshold to improve – but won’t give him injections to get through games due to the longer-term risks involved.

“He’s so close. We thought he’d be ready for this game, so we’re talking days rather than anything else. I know you can get things like injections, but there’s no point in risking someone for one game when the risk is that they could be out for a number of weeks. He’s very, very close, it’s not so much the injury itself, it’s that pain threshold and if it dies down. As soon as it dies down, he’ll be ready,” he added.
