Leeds United were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle United at Elland Road earlier today.

Garry Monk has told BBC Radio Leeds that his message to Leeds United’s players is that they need to bounce back from defeat to Newcastle United.

Leeds have been in wonderful form of late, but they struggled against top of the table Newcastle earlier today.

The Magpies picked up a 2-0 victory at Elland Road, after scoring twice through Dwight Gayle.

And Monk is determined to ensure that his Leeds side do not wallow in self pity after the defeat.

“Good teams react,” he said. “That’s my message to the players. When we suffer a negative result we have to bounce back, and we have to make sure we do that again next week.”

Despite the defeat, Leeds still have had plenty to be encouraged by of late and they sit in a healthy position in the Championship.

Leeds are in seventh place in the second tier standings, and sit just one point away from the play off spots.

The Whites have won nine of their last 13 matches – and they sold out for the first time in six years for their match against Newcastle.

Leeds are next in action on Saturday, when they face Rotherham United at the New York Stadium in a Yorkshire derby.
