Chris Wood is in good form for Leeds United at the moment.
Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has told The Football League Paper (print edition, page 19, Sunday, September 25, 2016) that he did not understand why Chris Wood was criticised earlier in the season.
Wood is in good form at the moment and is scoring goals for fun for Leeds.
The New Zealand international striker has scored five goals and created four chances in nine Championship appearances for the Whites so far this season.
However, the former Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion man did not start the 2016-17 Championship campaign strongly.
Wood came under criticism in the opening weeks of the season, and Monk has said that he cannot understand why.
The Leeds head coach has also said that he does not judge the striker on the number of goals he scores, but on his contribution to the team.
“He came in for criticism earlier in the season which I don’t quite understand,” Monk told The Football League Paper (print edition, page 19, Sunday, September 25, 2016) about Wood.
“His contribution in terms of goals has been very good, but I don’t judge him and I don’t judge the players on that.
“I judge on what they can contribute to the team. Of course, with strikers, you want them to be scoring goals for their confidence.”
Wood is a good striker, and he has proved that he can be successful in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old is not exactly a great footballer, but he is someone who is important to Leeds and will be a key player in their quest to finish in the top six of the Championship this season.
