Garry Monk believes that Swansea City would suffer a major blow if Ashley Williams did move to Everton.
Leeds United boss Garry Monk has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 3rd August, that it will be a major blow to Swansea City if they lose Ashley Williams to Everton.
Swansea have rejected Everton’s first bid for Williams, but Ronald Koeman’s side could make an improved offer for the 32-year-old in the near future.
And Monk, who used to manage Williams during his time at Swansea, admits that it could be the Welsh international’s last chance to move on from the Liberty Stadium.
“He’s the captain of the club. You can see the personality that he has. I’ve played with Ash, and managed him. If they lose him it’ll be a big blow,” he said, when asked whether Williams would be a good signing for Everton. “But, on the other hand, at his age maybe it’s his last opportunity.”
Williams has become a key player for Swansea over the years, and he is now regarded as one of the most reliable centre-backs in the Premier League.
With Koeman looking to strengthen Everton’s defence, Wiliams has gone straight to the top of his wishlist.
However, Swansea are determined to keep the bulk of their squad together and they showed their ambition by tying down Gylfi Sigurdsson to a new long-term deal earlier this week.
Everton have so far made two signings this summer, with Maarten Stekelenburg and Idrissa Gueye moving to Goodison Park.
