Leeds United manager Garry Monk has told LUTV that he doesn’t think tonight’s clash with Blackburn Rovers is a must-win game, but did acknowledge that it’s a ‘very important’ fixture.

The Whites have won just once in the Championship this season, and have lost their last two games after 3-1 and 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield Town respectively.

Leeds’ long-running struggles at Elland Road continue after Saturday’s defeat to Huddersfield, but Monk will be hoping to put that right tonight against Blackburn.

Rovers are still without a win this season and have picked up just two points under Owen Coyle, meaning they sit in the relegation zone alongside Leeds.

Tonight’s clash at Elland Road is a huge one for both sides as they look to kickstart their respective seasons, whilst Monk will be wary of pressure mounting on him after a slow start to the campaign.

The Mirror reported last month that owner Massimo Cellino had already considered sacking Monk, and after another defeat on Saturday, the former Swansea boss will be desperate to grab a home win and ease some pressure on him.

With that in mind, Monk spoke to LUTV ahead of the game, and was asked whether he feels this is a must-win game for Leeds, considering that Blackburn are in even worse form than they are.

Monk responded by saying that Saturday’s defeat makes tonight’s game ‘very important’, but will always look to win every game, and did add that there is no getting away from Leeds’ disappointing start to the campaign.

“It makes it a very important game,” said Monk. “But every game we look at to try and win, we don’t go into a game to try and do anything else. So each game is as important as the next, but of course we haven’t had the results that we wanted – there’s no getting away from that,” he added.
