Swansea City are flying at the moment under the inspirational management of Carlos Carvalhal. The former Sheffield Wednesday manager has Swansea playing the football fans want to see yet again and today they moved out of the relegation zone and into 15th place in the Premier League.

One man who is very pleased with the change in fortunes is something of a Swansea legend. Garry Monk spent ten years as a player at Swansea, guiding them from the bottom of the Football League to the Premier League. He then managed the side with success for nearly two years.

Speaking to the BBC today (15:36) Monk, who was most recently manager of Championship side Middlesbrough, spoke of the changed Carvalhal had made to the Swansea team:

“The biggest change under Carlos Carvalhal has been that they’re more clinical in front of goal.

“But also they seem to have a lot more energy and intensity in the way they defend. I don’t think the amount of shot’s they’re taking has changed, they’ve just been more clinical.”

Swansea have certainly been more clinical than they were under Paul Clement – who favoured a much more defensive and frankly, uninspiring, style of football.

Swansea fans, who were treated to exciting football for some time under Roberto Martinez, Brendan Rodgers and Michael Laudrup, are certainly enjoying the more clinical and expansive approach taken on by their new boss.

The Swansea way might be on its way back and Carvalhal is doing it all with a smile on his face. It looks like the doom and gloom might finally be passing in South Wales.
