Middlesbrough should approach Leeds United’s Garry Monk in the summer.

Middlesbrough look set to get relegated from the Premier League, and they should start planning for the 2017-18 season in the Championship.
Steve Agnew is in charge of Middlesbrough at the moment, and the 51-year-old should not be blamed for the team’s current position in the Premier League table.
However, it would be a risk for Boro to have Agnew in charge of the first team next season. After all, the Englishman has never been the first-team manager of a club on a permanent basis before.

While Middlesbrough should certainly retain the services of Agnew next season, they should look at Garry Monk. The Englishman is in charge of Leeds United at the moment, but the former Swansea City manager’s current contract with the Whites runs out at the end of the season.
If Monk is not handed a new deal, as suggested in a recent report in The Sun, then Middlesbrough should try to convince him to switch to the Riverside Stadium.
The 38-year-old may have failed to guide Leeds to the Championship playoffs this season, but he has done a wonderful job at Elland Road.
The current Leeds squad is good but not great, which is why Monk’s impact on the team cannot be understated.
Boro have one of the best stadiums in England, and their current squad is perfect for the Championship.
The likes of Adam Clayton, Rudy Gestede and Patrick Bamford are perfect for the Championship and have proved themselves in the division, and Monk would be able to get the best out of them.
Boro’s aim next season would be to bounce straight back into the Premier League, and Monk is the ideal manager for that quest.
