Leeds United won against Rotherham United at Elland Road in the Championship at the weekend.
Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has told BBC Sport (17:19) what his side can learn from the match against Rotherham United.
The Whites returned to winning ways in the Championship with a 3-0 victory over Rotherham at home on Monday afternoon.
After a goalless first half at Elland Road, Kyle Bartley put the home team in the lead just two minutes into the second period.
Chris Wood doubled the advantage for Leeds on 66 minutes and wrapped up the scoring with his second 11 minutes from full time.
Monk has admitted that he was disappointed with his side’s performance in the first half against Rotherham and has outlined the lesson the players should learn.
“The first 45 was as poor as I’ve seen – we were lucky to come through that unscathed,” Monk told BBC Sport (17:19). “They came to trying to slow it down and we played into their hands.
“I explained we had to be at our best and play at our pace, with our urgency in our play. We had three clear onsides that were offsides that could have been chances.
“We talk a lot in the group that unless we’re at 100%, we can suffer. I felt we were very lucky in that first half. Great reaction from the players, but I said – no disrespect to Rotherham – we’re not going to be afforded moments like in the first half.
“That’s the lesson we’ve learned from today. These players are learning all the time but we want to make sure we’re at 100% every minute.”
Over the course of the 90 minutes at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, hosts Leeds had 63% of the possession, took nine shots of which four were on target, and earned four corners, according to BBC Sport.
Visitors Rotherham had just 37% of the possession, took 11 shots of which only two were on target, and earned seven corners, according to BBC Sport.
