Swansea City are aiming to finish ahead of Everton, Stoke City, West Ham United and Newcastle United this season, according to Garry Monk.
Garry Monk has told the South Wales Evening Post that Swansea City are aiming to compete with Everton, Stoke City, West Ham United and Newcastle United this season.
Last term, the Swans’ eighth placed finish put them at the top of that group, and Monk is aiming to stay ahead of the quartet again.
The comments come ahead of Swansea’s match with Everton, which takes place on Saturday at the Liberty Stadium.
“We see ourselves competing with teams like Everton, Stoke, West Ham and Newcastle, as it was last season,” Monk said.
“Last season we managed to come out on top of that group.
“This year it will be just as hard to achieve that, but we are competing with them on the pitch and we will see what happens this weekend.”
If Swansea are to finish at the top of the pile again, then they may well need to improve on their finish from last term.
West Ham and Everton have made vast improvements over the summer, and they appear to have the potential to compete for a top-six place this season.
Stoke and Newcastle, meanwhile, have made rather different starts – with both sides still looking for their first Premier League wins of the season.
Swansea, though, have continued to build and have opened their campaign in fine form. Monk has seen the side to victory over Manchester United, and they managed to pick up a draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, showing their ability to compete with the very best in the business.
Swansea do go into the game against Everton having lost their last match with Watford, however. That defeat leaves the Welsh side in eighth place, as things stand.
