Leeds United proved their incredible resilience once again yesterday.
Leeds United manager Garry Monk
Whites boss Garry Monk spoke to LUTV in the aftermath of his side’s hard-fought draw with Newcastle United yesterday, and highlighted a particular area where his team struggled against the Magpies.
Leeds cemented their place inside the top six with their point yesterday, although their lead over seventh placed Fulham has been cut to just three points, after the Cottagers’ impressive 3-1 win away at Norwich City.
The West Yorkshire outfit have really impressed this season, with their resilience proving to be a major contributing factor behind their successful campaign.
And Monk highlighted how his players’ incredible commitment, and willingness to fight until the very end enabled them to leave Tyneside with something to show for their efforts, when speaking to LUTV:
“The game itself, we knew it was gong to be a difficult game right from the start. Like you expect with a bIg crowd, and a good team, they started to really get on top. Not so much from open play, we were quite comfortable from open play. It was more set-pieces, we conceded a lot of set-pieces. We defended them really well, we were very resilient, but eventually one of them told and they got the goal from it.”

Monk deserves great credit for the manner in which he has guided his side into contention for promotion, considering the instant pressure he found himself under when he took the manager’s job at Elland Road last summer.
Next up on the agenda for Leeds is a home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday, and three points against Paul Lambert’s men will stand them in great stead in their quest to gain promotion to the Premier League.
