Leeds United have been in fine form this season, pushing for promotion back to the Premier League.

Garry Monk has done a brilliant job at Elland Road turning around the fortunes of the West Yorkshire giants.

One area he has really improved is at the back.

He quickly dispatched of Giuseppe Bellusci and brought in Kyle Bartley and Pontus Jansson on loan from Swansea City and Torino respectively. At that point he soon sent Sol Bamba packing as well.

The results have been clear. Leeds have conceded the fifth least amount of goals in the Championship this season thanks to the brilliant form of the two central defenders.

But is no surprise that Monk has sorted the defence out at Leeds. After all, he was a defender himself.

Not only that, but he played at centre-back in every single level of the Football League – coming up from League Two relegation battles with Swansea to the Premier League.

With that wealth of experience the Leeds United manager was always going to have an idea of what was needed at the back to form a solid base in the Championship.

In Jansson and Bartley, with Rob Green behind, he has just that.
