Garry Monk hailed Leeds United’s hero Marco Silvestri on Tuesday.
Garry Monk has admitted to TV Yorkshire that he did not watch Leeds United’s penalty shootout win over Norwich City on Tuesday night.
Leeds progressed into the quarter-final of the League Cup last night by beating the Canaries 3-2 in the shootout, after the match finished 2-2 after two hours.
Ronaldo Vieira converted the winning spot-kick, but the hero of the piece was goalkeeper Marco Silvestri, who saved penalties from Alex Pritchard – who opened the scoring in regulation – Steven Naismith and Robbie Brady.

It appears as if the drama was too much for the Whites manager, who admitted to TV Yorkshire that he could not bear to watch the shootout, but Monk reserved praise for Silvestri and says he is one of the best shot-stoppers he has seen in football.
Monk, who has worked with or played alongside the likes of Lukasz Fabianski and Michel Vorm, said: “I don’t watch penalties so I didn’t watch it, but I was told he made three very good saves. Marco is one of the best shot-stoppers I’ve seen to be honest. Fantastic.”
Pritchard’s 14th-minute opener was cancelled out by Marcus Antonsson just before the half-time break as both sides were level at the end.

Leeds, however, had to play the additional 30 minutes with 10 men after Lewie Coyle fell injured after all three substitutions were made.
Norwich put one foot in the last eight when Nelson Oliveira fired home on 99 minutes, but Chris Wood, one of the second-half subs, levelled up 10 minutes later to force penalties.
