Garry Monk has explained that it was the cohesion amongst the squad that pleased him most about Leeds United’s impressive 3-0 victory over Shamrock Rovers, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.
The Whites rounded off their pre-season tour of Ireland with the emphatic win thanks to a penalty from Chris Wood and a brace from summer signing Marcus Antonsson.

The scoreline could have been even more comfortable had United not been denied by the woodwork on three occasions. And Monk outlined the major improvement that he saw from their last game which was a 2-1 win over Shelbourne earlier in the week.
“There was more team ethic out there than I saw on Wednesday – a little bit more cohesive,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
With the number of changes that have occurred at Elland Road over the summer – involving both a cluster of new signings and new management team – Monk’s main concern may well have been how his side would gel.
Given the amount of youth within the team, Monk may have felt that creating a cohesive unit would have been a hugely important task to make up for the lack of Championship experience within the squad.
And with three more friendlies to go before they take on Queens Park Rangers on the opening day of the season, the boss will be hoping that that spirit within the team continues to grow to give them the best chance of doing well this term.
