Leeds United are facing Newcastle United in the Championship this evening.
Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has explained on Sky Sports 1 on Friday evening (April 14, 2017) why Ronaldo Vieira is not in the starting lineup against Newcastle United this evening.
The West Yorkshire outfit are facing Newcastle away from home at St. James’ Park in the Championship at the moment.
“Ronny was due to start, but he had a bit of illness last night so I have put him back onto the bench,” said Monk on Sky Sports 1 on Friday evening (April 14, 2017) in the build-up to the Championship game between Newcastle and Leeds at St. James’ Park on the channel.
Vieira has been an important player for Leeds so far this season. The 18-year-old defensive midfielder has featured in 31 Championship matches for the Whites so far this campaign, scoring one goal and creating seven chances in the process.
Liam Bridcutt, who is 27 years of age and also operates as a defensive midfielder, will be looking to have a good game as he has replaced 18-year-old Vieira in the team.
Leeds are fifth in the Championship table at the moment with 72 points from 41 matches and should be confident of clinching a playoff spot.
As for Newcastle, Rafael Benitez’s side are currently second in the standings with 84 points from 41 matches.
