Leeds United made it three straight wins with their 4-1 victory yesterday.

Leeds boss Garry Monk explained why he substituted Hadi Sacko after just 54 minutes during his side’s impressive 4-1 win at Preston North-End yesterday, when speaking to BBC Radio Leeds in the aftermath of the game.

The result saw the Whites cement their position inside the play-off spots, and moved them to within just eight points of second-placed Newcastle United.

The 20-year-old Frenchman scored Leeds’ second goal yesterday, but was substituted just 30 minutes later, and Monk was asked by BBC Radio Leeds if the change was made due to any kind of injury concern for Sacko:

“No, just looking at the game I felt the way they could hurt us was down the side and throw-in situation or crossing situations. We just wanted to make a tactical change and sometimes players are sacrificed for that but they understand. We are here to win games and do what’s best for the team.”

Yesterday’s result made it eight wins from the last 10 Championship outings for the West Yorkshire outfit, and Monk will be hoping that his side can keep up the level of performances that they have shown in recent weeks, as they look to close the gap on those currently in the automatic promotion spots.

Next up for Leeds is a crucial trip to the Midlands to take on Aston Villa, and a win for Monk’s men at Villa Park would greatly enhance their chances of finishing inside the top six.
