Leeds United won against Norwich City in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has explained to BBC Sport why Alex Mowatt did not feature against Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.

Mowatt was not even on the substitutes’ bench for Leeds’s Championship game against Norwich away from home at Carrow Road.

Monk has explained his decision not to include the 21-year-old midfielder in the matchday squad.

“I wanted two central midfielders on the bench so Alex Mowatt missed out – you have to set up to get what you want from the squad and support each other, and everybody knows that,” the Leeds head coach told BBC Sport.

Mowatt is a very talented and promising young midfielder, but the 21-year-old has not always been in the team.

The youngster has yet to establish himself in the Leeds first team under Monk, who was appointed the head coach in the summer.

The West Yorkshire outfit, though, are playing well without the Englishman and are getting positive results as well.

Leeds got the better of Norwich 3-2 away from home at Carrow Road in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Whites are sixth in the league table at the moment with 26 points from 16 matches.
