Leeds United moved into the Championship’s top six with a win at Carrow Road.

Garry Monk has urged his Leeds United squad to try their luck from distance much more often after Ronaldo Vieira’s stunning stoppage-time winner at the weekend, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.

Leeds moved into the play-off places in the Championship following a dramatic win over Norwich City at Carrow Road. After a sensational 90 minutes had ended with the scores level at 2-2, Vieira stepped up with a brilliant long-range strike in added time that stung Michael McGovern’s gloves as they found their way into the net to send the away fans into a frenzy.

And after the game, Monk explained that the rest of the squad have the quality to emulate what the holding midfielder did in future.

“We’ve got a lot of young players and it’s exciting for me to be working with potential like that,” he said, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“There’s a few of them who have a shot on them and it’s all about encouraging them to take it at the right time.

“Hopefully this encourages them to do that. Shooting from distance is something we work on in training and we need to do more of it because the players have got the capability.”

What the goal perhaps highlighted more than anything is the confidence that Monk has instilled in his squad since arriving at Elland Road.

Had he been playing in previous seasons, Vieira may have perhaps been afraid of trying such an attempt as the seconds ticked down as it may have proved to be Leeds’ last opportunity, and was more than likely destined to end up high in the stand.

However, the 18-year-old – who had not scored a professional goal before the game – had the belief to try his luck. And after the gamble paid off, it may now not be a surprise to see some of his teammates attempt a similar moment of magic in the future.
