Speaking during an interview with LUTV in the aftermath of his side’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich yesterday, Whites boss Garry Monk underlined why he considered the point as a good result, with his side suffering from a lack of energy.
Leeds have far exceeded expectations this season, especially after their poor start to their campaign, and now sit comfortably inside the play-off spots in fifth position, seven points clear of seventh placed Norwich City.
A place inside the automatic promotion spots now seems an extremely ambitious task, with eight points separating them and second placed Newcastle United, but Monk was adamant that a point against the Tractor Boys was an admirable achievement, telling LUTV:
“It was a very hard fought game, we had to physically really dig in, there was a lot of tired bodies out there. We had a lot of games in a short period, and away from home, at a place we knew was going to be very difficult, I think it’s a very good point.”

Next up on the agenda for Monk’s men is a huge home game against promotion rivals Sheffield Wednesday, before consecutive away matches against Birmingham City and Fulham respectively.
And if they harbour any kind of automatic promotion hopes, a return of nine points will most definitely be needed from those fixtures.
Whatever happens this season though, Monk deserves huge credit for the manner in which he has managed to turn Leeds back into a side who are respected within the division once again, through a combination of attractive football and a wonderful collective team spirit.
