Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United side are in a battle with Sheffield United and Norwich City for promotion.

Garry Monk the Middlesbrough manager looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Middlesbrough at Craven Cottage on September 23, 2017 in London, England.

Garry Monk has told Leeds Live that Leeds United ‘need’ to be in the Premier League, although he expects them to face a battle to earn promotion, with Norwich City and Sheffield United also in the hunt.

Former Leeds boss, Monk, hurt his old side’s promotion chances yesterday, as he led Birmingham City to a 1-0 victory over them at St. Andrews.

But Monk has suggested that Leeds belong in the top flight, even though it is hard to predict who will go up, with Norwich and Sheffield United also in the battle.

“Between the top three. Norwich have a cushion, but the league is tough to call,” the Blues boss said.

“Top three are the best teams.

“Leeds need to be in the Premier League. They should be in the Premier League. Lot of football to be played. They will try and beat Sheffield United on Wednesday night.”

Birmingham picked up their win over Leeds thanks to a goal from Che Adams in the first half.

In truth Leeds never really got going in the contest, as they put in a disappointing display.

Leeds have now fallen out of the top two, with Sheffield United leapfrogging them in the Championship table.

Leeds are next in action in midweek when they take on Preston North End, and they are under significant pressure to pick up the three points.
